Ahmad Murtaza Ershad is doctoral researcher at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) in Germany. He explores transformation scenarios in the energy system with high shares of solar PV electricity. Using a simple model of wholesale energy-only electricity market, he quantifies the decline in the economic value of solar PV electricity and assesses the suitability of different mechanisms such as deployment of storage to mitigate this decline and increase the viability of solar PV investments. He is also affiliated with the Energy Engineering Department of Kabul University in Afghanistan. He has taught renewable energy courses for the undergraduate engineering and environmental science students at Kabul University. He holds a master’s degree in energy engineering from the University of Dayton in Ohio, USA.
